Dr. Albert Wong
Founding President(2000-2004)

The Modernized Chinese Medicine International Association (MCMIA) was established in 2000 as a non-profit trade organization by a group of Chinese medicine (CM) business professionals, scientists and academics. The goal of the association is to foster HK as an international center of CM through its modernization, popularization and the enhancement of the professionalism of the CM industry.
In pursuit of the above goal, MCMIA strived to establish 3 platforms in Hong Kong for CM. They are a Trading Platform, an Informatics Platform and a Quality Assurance Platform. The former 2 platforms have already been successfully built in collaboration with the HK Trade Development Council by jointly-organizing ICMCM (International Conference & Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products). The building of the Quality Assurance Platform has now been achieved by partnering with The Chinese University of Hong Kong to build up the Blockchain for the industry in 2019. With the up-to-date IT technology, it is expected to set up a reliable Quality Assurance platform for the international.
Each year, MCMIA organizes ICMCM which assembles the world’s experts to explore the development of CM, to report on scientific and technological advances, to introduce new products and to update on the global regulatory changes. With the two decades’ effort, ICMCM has now evolved to become an international focal point for the modernization and the modernization of CM. ICMCM will continue to seek different opportunity, especially the Bay area near Hong Kong. Due to the development of the Bay area, our potential market can be 10 times bigger.
To enhance the professionalism of the CM industry, MCMIA launched a “Lecture Series for the CM Industry Executives” in 2003-04 with dozens of senior CM executives and experts lecturing on a wide rage of topics in the various fields of CM. In 2015, MCMIA launches a short course on “pCM Safety and Quality Testing Methods and Technology”. In 2016-17, MCMIA held seminars on the “pCM Standard and Quality for registration”. It helped the industry to solve the problems during the product registration.
MCMIA is dedicated to the CM education for the professionals and consumers alike. Apart from sponsoring the “Public Health Forum on CM” during ICMCM, MCMIA routinely organizes seminars, roundtables, forums and luncheon-talks etc. to help the attendees keep abreast with the current development in CM.
As a trade association, MCMIA vigorously defends its members’ rights and speaks on their behalf. MCMIA also tirelessly create business opportunities for its members. Besides organizing trade and exhibition missions, sponsoring business exchange forums, receiving visiting delegations, and promoting the flow of business information through its website and gatherings, MCMIA organizes committees to re-evaluate the current pCM regulations from academic and scientific perspectives to ensure fairness and effectuality. Meanwhile, to open up more markets for HK’s TCM industry, MCMIA appeals to the Greater China Region (GCR) authorities to implement the “GRC TCM Integration and Harmonization”.
